Catching up..

Falmouth (UK) - Douarnenez (Fr), 10-11 August 2012

Leaving the anchorage in Falmouth at 6 am
After having hoisted and trimmed the sails and set the wind vane steering system, it's time for a a mug of coffee on the foredeck
Course: due South. Wind: 20 knots E-NE. The first day with perfect sailing weather since my departure!

Douarnenez, France

Above and below: Anchorage near the city center of Douarnenez

Des retrouvailles en France. Werner, Doris and I; A pleasant reunion, six years after we said goodbye in Benin!
Chez Werner!
Kicks for free: Werner testing my Top Climber in Bft 6.  The mere sight of him dangling in the wind at the top of the mast gave me vertigo!
On a boat it is key to ensure adequate back-up systems..

Pancakes, pancakes, and more french pancakes
Some dutch people own a house in France, I own a village!

Douarnenez (France) - La Coruna (Spain), 19 - 22 August 2012

Leaving Douarnenez on a foggy Sunday morning. Lighthouse ' La Vieille'.
The first 24 hours I was almost constantly accompanied by dolphins. Even while resting in the cabin at night I could hear their clicking and whistling sounds.
Half way the Gulf of Biscaye. 25 years ago I was sailing here with my father in a heavy storm, in the highest waves I have ever experienced in my life. This time it was dead calm, and we were running under a genua at only 2 miles per hour
Le grand bleu (a real fisheye view)
Three pilot whales crossing my path. They can be easily recognized by their black skin and distinctive round head

Early morning on the 4th day. A strong breeze in the right direction! (A rather dramatic view from the galley porthole)
Land in sight after 4 days alone at sea
Torre de Hercules, La Coruna, Spain
